In a world where chaos reigns supreme, it's refreshing to find moments of levity that bring people together. Such is the case with Sue, a plucky orange kitten who's captured the hearts of millions after being rescued by construction workers in Ohio.
Last month, operating supervisor Chase Guello and his team at River Reach Construction in Barberton were busy digging up the earth when they stumbled upon an unexpected discovery – a tiny kitten trapped inside a Komatsu excavator. The little ball of fluff had been crying out for help, and the team sprang into action to rescue her.
The operation was a success, with Guello expertly prying open the machine's bottom skid plate to free Sue from her predicament. Footage of the rescue quickly went viral on social media, racking up an impressive 5.8 million views and counting.
As word of the heroic rescue spread, Komatsu itself took notice, reaching out to River Reach Construction to express admiration for their compassionate actions. The construction company has since shared a series of heartwarming updates featuring Sue's journey from foster care to official "shop cat."
When she's not hard at work on site, Sue gets to enjoy some downtime with shop mechanic Jared, who lives on a farm and has plenty of experience caring for animals. In fact, Sue's become quite the celebrity in her own right, receiving gifts from Columbus Equipment Company and earning herself a cozy little high-vis jacket and construction hat courtesy of Komatsu.
But Sue's story isn't the only feline tale making headlines this week. A kitten from Wisconsin has just set a new Guinness World Record for the most toes on a cat – no fewer than 29! The plucky little Erebus Anomaly overcame some serious health issues to achieve this feat, and his dad's impressive six-toed paws helped him claim the title.
As we navigate the ups and downs of life in these uncertain times, it's stories like Sue's and Erebus' that remind us of the power of compassion, community, and – of course – cats. And who knows?
