Thieves Make Off with Tens of Thousands of Cans of Pabst Beer, Police Investigate Possible Single Operation
In a brazen heist, thieves made off with tens of thousands of cans of Pabst beer in two separate incidents from a Southern California warehouse on the same day, according to police. The stolen cargo, valued at $70,000, has been seized upon by Pabst Blue Ribbon as an opportunity for light-hearted social media promotion.
The first heist occurred when about $45,000 worth of beer headed to Tucson, Arizona, was picked up but never delivered. An hour later, a "purported subcontracting company" submitted fake documents to pick up another $25,000 worth of beer at the same Anheuser-Busch distribution center in Montclair, California, approximately 40 miles east of Los Angeles.
A total of roughly 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon and non-alcoholic Old Milwaukee beer, or over 1,500 cases, were stolen during these two incidents. According to a police report obtained by the Los Angeles Times, this translates to approximately 18,145 kilograms or 40,000 pounds of stolen cargo.
In response to the thefts, Pabst Blue Ribbon has taken to Instagram, poking fun at the situation and starting a countdown seeking the return of its stolen goods. In one post, the company quipped, "To the thief: we don't fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way." It added, "P.s. this is real and we are deadly serious."
Meanwhile, police in Montclair are working to determine whether these two separate thefts were part of a single operation.
