In a move that promises to delight ocean travel enthusiasts and luxury aficionados alike, Cunard's majestic Queen Mary 2 is set to undergo a significant refurbishment, commencing in the spring of 2027. As the iconic ship prepares to enter dry dock at Damen Shiprepair Brest in France on March 31, excitement builds for the slew of enhancements that will elevate the Queen Mary 2 experience to new heights.
Among the most notable changes will be the addition of 31 new staterooms, including 16 Cunard Princess Grill Suites and 15 Britannia category staterooms. Each of these luxurious accommodations will boast fresh furnishings, finishes, and interiors, as well as updated bathrooms throughout the Grill Suite categories. Guests will also delight in the revamped Queens Grill and Princess Grill dining rooms, where culinary masterpieces will be served amidst elegant surroundings.
But the Queen Mary 2's makeover won't stop there. The ship's deck space will also grow, providing ample room for guests to bask in the sun, take in breathtaking views of the water, or engage in popular activities like pickleball and paddle tennis. And, of course, the ship's beloved kennels – the only ones of their kind at sea – will be expanded and redesigned, offering a larger owners' lounge, increased capacity, and additional outdoor space for pets to stretch their paws.
In addition to these physical enhancements, the Queen Mary 2 will also undergo a transformation in its Mareel Wellness & Beauty facility, which will be reimagined with cutting-edge technology. Guests will also discover a new lineup of retail shops onboard, offering a curated selection of unique treasures and trinkets.
The Illuminations planetarium, touted as the largest at sea, will also receive a technological boost, ensuring that its stunning shows and presentations continue to captivate audiences. And, as always, the Royal Court Theatre will host West End and Broadway productions, while the Insights lecture series will feature engaging guest speakers.
At the helm of this design masterpiece is Chris Finch, one of the original designers of the Queen Mary 2, who has blended classic Hollywood style with British design heritage to create a truly unique and captivating atmosphere. Illustrator Tanu Vasu has also partnered with Cunard to produce a series of illustrations depicting the refurbishment, capturing the essence of the Queen Mary 2's timeless elegance and enduring sense of wonder.

As the Queen Mary 2 prepares to set sail once again, Cunard president Katie McAlister emphasized the company's commitment to preserving the ship's heritage and character. "Queen Mary 2 is more than a ship – she is an icon of modern luxury travel and the only true ocean liner in the world," McAlister said. "This is a significant investment in Queen Mary 2, and every decision has been approached with deep respect for her heritage, her character and the sense of occasion that only Queen Mary 2 can offer. We are not reinventing what guests love about her; we are refining it beautifully and ensuring she carries it forward."
Bookings for the new suites and staterooms opened on May 18, with sailings departing after May 2027. With the Queen Mary 2's refurbishment, the stage is set for an unforgettable experience that will delight and impress even the most discerning travelers.
