The Unfiltered Volley: Texas Rangers Ink Top Three Picks in 2026 MLB Draft
Globe Life Field's hallowed halls will soon be abuzz with the energy of fresh-faced prospects, as the Texas Rangers announced yesterday that their top three selections from the 2026 MLB Draft have agreed to terms. Gio Rojas, Connor Comeau, and Brody Bumila are set to join the organization, with a press conference scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The real intrigue lies in the reported financial maneuvering behind the scenes, as the Rangers allegedly went big on one player, using some of that cash to coax another prospect into signing. The first piece of this puzzle is Rojas, the 16th overall pick, who reportedly inked a deal worth $4.6 million - a whopping $400,000 less than his slot value of $5.05 million.
This financial flexibility allowed the Rangers to allocate more resources to Bumila, the 89th overall selection, who required some convincing to forgo his college commitment at Texas and enter pro ball. His deal is reportedly worth $2.75 million, a significant bump from his slot value of $900,000.
Comeau's terms remain under wraps, but his spot as the 54th overall pick came with a slot value of $1.81 million.
As the trio joins the Rangers' fold, it's clear that each player brings their own unique story to the table. Rojas, just 19 years old, dominated on the mound as a senior at Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) High School, notching an impressive 11-1 record with a 0.58 ERA and 124 strikeouts.
The southpaw's achievements extend beyond his prep career, having suited up for Team USA's 18-and-under National Team and earning All-World Starting Pitcher honors at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup - all while playing alongside none other than Brody Schumaker, son of Rangers manager Skip Schumaker.
Comeau, turning 18 next month, brought his impressive .512 batting average and 28 RBI to Anderson High School in Austin. A left-handed hitting infielder, he showcased his skills at the 2025 Canadian Futures Showcase, drawing connections to his Canadian roots.
Bumila, also just 18 years old, was a force to be reckoned with on the mound at Bishop Feehan H.S. in Attleboro, Mass., boasting a 6-0 record and 1.10 ERA alongside 106 strikeouts. His résumé includes a 20-strikeout no-hitter and a state title in basketball - where he won Male National Athlete of the Year honors as a senior.
The Texas Rangers' top three picks have officially put pen to paper, and the anticipation builds for their introduction at Globe Life Field on Tuesday. With each player bringing their own brand of excitement to the table, it's clear that the future is bright in Arlington.
