Venus Is Back, Babes...and She's Not Done Yet

Tennis Icon Venus Williams Returns to US Open, Thanks Husband for Keeping Her in the Game

Get ready for some serious tennis drama, folks! The one and only Venus Williams is back at the US Open, and it's all thanks to her hubby, Andrea Preti. This isn't just any comeback, though - we're talking about a woman who never officially retired from professional tennis, but took extended breaks due to health concerns and injuries.

So, what's the tea? Well, Venus accepted a wild card into the singles draw, and she'll be facing off against 2020 Aussie Open champ Sofia Kenin in prime time at Arthur Ashe Stadium. This is big news for tennis fans everywhere, especially since it's been over six years since Venus last won a singles match at her home major.

But let's get to the real MVP - Andrea Preti. The guy played a significant role in keeping Venus on the court, even when she was considering slowing down. When Venus returned to competition in 2025 after a 16-month absence, she gave Preti all the credit for motivating her comeback.

"He really encouraged me to keep playing," Venus told Rennae Stubbs via E! News. "There were so many times where I just wanted to coast and kind of chill."

Now, we know what you're thinking - why is Venus still playing tennis at 46? Well, it's not about proving anything to anyone; it's all about living life on her own terms.

"I do what I do because I want to live life the way I want to, unapologetically, with no regrets, on my terms," Venus told Tennis. "Do my terms always come out the way I want them to? No. But at least I tried to live on my own terms, and that's super important to me."

Venus met Preti at a Gucci event in Lake Como during Milan Fashion Week back in 2024. Their relationship started when Venus was going through a tough time, physically and personally. A month after they started dating, Preti was by her side when she underwent surgery for uterine fibroids.

"We were going through a lot," Venus told Vogue, "and he supported me."

Preti proposed in Tuscany in January 2025, and the couple exchanged vows in Italy before making their marriage official during a December celebration in Florida. Throughout those changes away from tennis, Preti continued to be Venus' rock, encouraging her to compete.

And that's exactly what happened - Venus made a comeback in 2025 and now she's back at the US Open for another shot at the top.

So, are you ready for some serious tennis drama? Because we know we are!
