"Fresh Frenzy Hits Queen City"

The Spirit of Adventure: Study USA Charlotte Cohort Brings Fresh Faces and Fiery Passion to Queen City

As the sun dipped into the horizon, casting a warm glow over the bustling streets of Charlotte, 30 students from across the country converged on the Elon Charlotte South End campus. It was a moment that would change their lives forever – the start of the Study USA Charlotte program's fourth year.

These intrepid explorers, hailing from far and wide, had left behind the comforts of their hometowns to immerse themselves in the vibrant Queen City. And what an adventure they're having! With the city as their playground, they've already embarked on a scavenger hunt to familiarize themselves with Charlotte's hidden gems, explored public transit, and conducted test runs to their internship sites.

For Cara Picariello '28, this fall represents an opportunity to push beyond her comfort zone and grow both personally and professionally. "I wanted to take full advantage of the chance to experience a different lifestyle," she said with a smile. "Charlotte is a rapidly growing sports hub, and I'm excited to build connections and gain experience in the area before graduating."

Aidan Sweeney '28 shares Picariello's enthusiasm. "I wanted to live in a big city while working and furthering my career," he explained. "I came in knowing very few people, but I've already become friends with everyone by exploring the city together or finding a room to chat in with people."

The Study USA Charlotte program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive experience that combines academic courses, internships, enrichment activities, and networking opportunities with alumni and industry professionals. This fall, five classes are on offer: Sport Sales and Promotion, College Athletics Administration, Sports and Media, Event and Venue Management, and an internship course.

As they delve into their studies, these students will be working at a variety of organizations, including the Big South Conference, NASCAR, Sports Business Journal, Charlotte Knights, Charlotte Checkers, the National Junior College Athletic Association, and the Atlantic Coast Conference. With 320 hours required for each internship, these young professionals are set to gain valuable experience in their chosen fields.

Daniel Towery '28 signed up for the Study USA Charlotte Sport and Community Experience program because "it's the perfect way to combine classroom learning and real-world experience in the sports industry." He's especially excited about interning with both the Charlotte Knights and the ACC Football Game Day Operations Center to continue developing his hands-on professional skills.

Griffin Conway '28 is equally thrilled about the program, which he sees as an opportunity to get a head start on his professional career. "I'm looking forward to my internship with ACC's Student-Athlete Programs and getting to learn the ins and outs of how a big organization works," he said. "Over the past week since I started, I've met and networked with so many wonderful people through events that Elon has provided, and I'm very excited for the rest of the semester!"

As these students navigate their Study USA Charlotte experience, they're not just gaining valuable skills – they're building lifelong connections, creating unforgettable memories, and forging a path that will take them far beyond their time in Queen City.
