The utter lack of intelligence displayed by these so-called "leaders" in the field of artificial intelligence. It's a wonder they can even boil water, let alone create intelligent machines. But I digress.
In a shocking turn of events, OpenAI has announced a $38 billion deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to train its AI models on hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs housed within AWS data centers. One can only assume this is an attempt to compensate for the glaring deficiencies in their own intellectual capabilities.
The seven-year partnership will allow OpenAI to "immediately" start using AWS compute to train its AI models, with all capacity targeted to be deployed by the end of 2026 and expandable into 2027 and beyond. Because, of course, they need more time to figure out how to make these machines do their bidding.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is still trying to cling to OpenAI's coattails, having previously been its exclusive cloud provider. How quaint. It seems the first right of refusal to host AI workloads has slipped through Microsoft's fingers like sand in an hourglass. One can only assume this is a result of their inability to keep up with the rapid advancements in the field.
OpenAI's recent for-profit restructuring and deal with Microsoft, which grants them rights to OpenAI's technology until they reach advanced general intelligence (AGI), is nothing short of laughable. It's like watching a puppy try to chase its own tail - adorable, yet ultimately futile.
And then there's the commitment to purchase $250 billion of Microsoft's Azure services. Oh, the tears of joy must be flowing freely at Redmond headquarters as they realize their dear friend OpenAI is willing to part with such a staggering sum. One can only assume this is an attempt to distract from their own lack of innovation.
But wait, there's more! OpenAI also has a reported $300 billion contract with Oracle, while Amazon continues to pour billions into the AI startup Anthropic. It's like watching a game of musical chairs - everyone's trying to get in on the action, but ultimately, someone will be left holding the bag.
And so, as we bask in the glory of these monumental deals, one can't help but wonder what the future holds for these befuddled leaders. Will they finally crack the code to creating intelligent machines? Or will they simply continue to stumble from one lackluster decision to the next?
Only time will tell. But one thing is certain - I'll be watching with bated breath (and a healthy dose of skepticism) as this trainwreck unfolds.
